Ok so I got my Micro's bed calibrated this was wave bonding. If didn't lift off at all. So now I need to dial in on the right temperature and flow settings. I am hoping some of you can give me some suggestions of things to try. The blob at top is from a failure. The whole printer lifted off the table because the filament got stuck. I managed to stop, then I tried to re home x and y and resume printing. Only problem was it didn't resume moving it just resumed extruding. Thus the blob. Not sure if this can be fixed in the octopi m3d fio plugin but it would be nice. This was 10 hours into a 15 hour print.

+Alex Hayden Yes! Have you calibrated the extruder? Again, I don't know the specifics of that printer, but on mine you can set the number of steps per mm of extrusion. It's an iterative process, and it shouldn't take more than about 5-10 minutes, once. Adjusting the flow rate is a half-way method of calibrating the extruder (but it does work).

On mine, I mark the filament 10 and 12 cm from the top of the extruder, extrude 100mm, and see how far off it is (the 12cm mark is in case it over-extrudes). Take the desired extrusion (100mm), divide it by the actual extrusion, and then multiply that by the current e-step setting to find the new setting. Test again, and it should be just about perfect. Of course, on your printer, this may be completely useless information.

Still, try increasing the feed rate if you can't calibrate the extruder, and see how it does.

Has anyone found a way to get a command sent to the printer that can configure the dimensions? Would have to work something like the home command. Current methods to home use firmware defined dimensions. Couldn't we get the firmware to define the dimensions based on a homing sequence? Like this.

Home to min endstops.
Bounce 5mm then home to min endstops.
Then set min endstops to zero.
Then home to max endstops.
Bounce 5mm then home to max endstops.
Then set max endstops to distance traveled from zero.

The machine already counts steps per mm. I think this could work. It would be really great for use on a Delta style printer. You could then look at the EPROM to see if the dimensions are the same for all 3 towers and make adjustments to fix them easily.

So I have seen a number of delta style 3d printers that have attached the extruder motor to the print head. Even more who use bowden style extruders. Both have some pretty heavy downsides. I was wondering how much interest people would have for a new design that fixes all the current issues with these and bowden style extruders? I have been working on the solution for some time now. I am curious if there is enough interest. I would like to start a kickstarter to raise funding for a production run. I would need some significant support to make this happen. If over 100 people show an interest (by commenting or voting) in this solution, I will finish my prototype and present my solution. I am very close to presentable results. The mechanical functions work, still working on the electronics. If anyone who has experience with getting custom made dc stepper motors to work is interested in assisting me, I would very much like to hear from you. I look forward to hearing from lots of people. Please understand that I have not provide a detailed description of how my extruder will work due to its revolutionary design.

I think like everyone in this group would like to help with devlopment if the concept is good. And of course many would support your campaign.

Related to the campaign, I actually would look if you will make it completely Open Source, at least after your first production run. If that wouldn't be the case I wouldn't support it anyway.

So my guess, if you don't want to make it open source at all, nobody here will support or help you.

Questions/Help  -

Hello everyone. I am hoping that someone here will be willing to share the secret ideal setting for a bowden direct drive extruder. I personally have been unable to get this style of extruder to work reliably. I did extensive testing and found that because you have a hose with a larger diameter then the filament you can end up with as much as 75mm or as little as 25mm when you tell the machine to extrude 50mm. This is because of the extra space in the hose, but you need to have some extra space in order to push the filament through the hose. Too tight a hose will have too much friction. I did more research and found someone who did the math and made an equation to calculate a number of steps per mm. I also found that because you use a hobbed gear that bites into the material it is prone to striping out the plastic so bad that it can no longer grab more to push through. This happens when your hot head jams or your hose causes too much friction. This is why I am asking for someone to share the "secret" to bowden style direct drive extruders. I notice all most every deltabot uses these and just wonder if anyone else has this much trouble getting them to work. Thanks in advanced to anyone who is willing to help.

I always use wave bond it sticks way better . I hadn't tried any pause/resume yet with mine :/

Hello everybody. I am in need of some assistance with editing the firmware to operate my motors correctly. They are 4.2v 1.8degree step 1.5a. They are wired correctly, but when i hit the home button or move button the motor stalls. What voltage is sent through to the motor? Is it definable? If not does that mean these motors will not work? Or will turning down the current to some other value make them work? If so how do i calculate that value?

Thanks.

Boy that sure was hard to find. I think all motion control and speed setting should be grouped together along with endstops. Would make finding the issue easier.

Question? Why do all my prints end up measuring less then they should? I have to scale them up to 1.03 in order to get most of the dimensions to turn out. But then the holes end up being too small and slightly off in their positions. I must be missing a setting some where. Any suggestions?
