2.7 inch E-paper Display

Embedded Artists' 2.7 inch E-paper Display module adds graphics capabilities to your project.

The module use the EM027BS013 from Pervasive Displays.
Note that previous versions of the board used the now obsolete EM027AS012 display. The new and old displays are not 100% software compatible.

The display has an SPI interface and some extra control signals. The display module connects to Embedded Artists' standard 14-pos expansion connector. Several of our products have the connector on-board. More modules are found here.

Technical details about how to interface the display can be found on the RePaper site and here.

  • No of pixels: 264x176
  • High resolution - 117 dpi (0.217 x 0.217mm pixels)
  • Ultra low power consumption - due to its bi-stable nature, the EPD panel requires very little power to update the display and needs no power to maintain an image
  • Very wide viewing angle - near 180°
  • No backlight - display useful in daylight applications
  • SPI interface + control signals, incl a PWM signal
  • Diagonal size: 2.7 inch
  • Module supply voltage: 3.3V, the display is supplied with 3.0V via on-board LDO
  • View area: 57.3 × 38.2 mm
  • Operating temperature: 0 to +50 degrees Celsius
  • No of colors: 2 (blackr and white)
  • Standard 14 pos serial expansion connector interface (2x7 shrouded pin header, 50/100 mil spacing)
  • 60 x 74 mm module size
  • 3.2 mm mounting holes in 52 x 66.3 mm pattern
  • 32Mbit SPI flash (as of rev D boards)

Supported Boards

The 2.7 inch E-paper Display Module can be used directly with any of the following Embedded Artists boards:

  • OEM Base Board - included in the LPC1788 / LPC4088 / LPC3250 Developer's Kit.
  • AOA Application Kit

It is simple to interface the standard 14-pos serial expansion connector with any custom design.

The E-paper Display Module is an Evaluation product, not designed for integration or long time availability.

Schematics and Measurements
When buying a display directly from Embedded Artists you will get the latest revision. When buying from a distributor you will likely get the latest version but during a transition period there can still be the previous revision at distributor's stock.

Rev D supports both EM027AS012 and EM027BS013 displays. Rev D was released in May 2014 with EM027AS012 displays and in late June with EM027BS013 displays.
Currently, rev D with EM027BS013 displays are shipped.

E-paper Display Module - Rev D (improved version with everything from rev C plus supports EM027BS013 display and has direct RPi connector (26-pin version).
Note that the EM027BS013 display is not software compatible with the display, EM027AS012, that was mounted on rev A/B/C and some rev D boards)
E-paper Display Module - Rev C (improved version with everything from rev B plus possibility for separate SSEL signals for SPI FLASH and display)
E-paper Display Module - Rev B (improved version with SPI FLASH and +5V tolerant I/O for Arduino experiments)
E-paper Display Module - Rev A
